The Arts For Kids

From an early age I have been involved with the arts. You name it, I did it! I always felt that the creativity that the arts allowed was a great outlet for my feelings. I have done a little painting, a little sculpting and even some photography. But that is not all. From a young age, I did a variety of dance, including ballet, tap and jazz. And, in middle school and high school I was a budding actor. In my opinion, all of these activities have made me a more rounded person.

When I had kids, I wanted them to have the same advantages that I enjoyed. So, I made sure that they were introduced to the arts like I was. I have a son and daughter, and both have had opportunities to explore the creative side that was in them. I was not a pushy mother insisting that they participate in arts program. But I did make sure that they knew it existed and introduced them to the wide range of arts programs that are available. I am pleased to say that they have accepted my suggestions, and both have enjoyed working in various arts.

The same can be done with your children as well. Generally speaking, kids will enjoy and embrace any activities that seemed to be their own idea. The worst thing you can do is to force a child to participate in an activity that the parent chose. Usually if that happens the child will rebel and not fully participate. Instead, introduce the child to an activity and not push them. If they enjoyed it and had a good time they will be looking to go back for more fun. The good news is that there are many activities available to kids in the arts, with most being able to just start to see if the kids enjoys it.

So, feel free to introduce your child to the arts. It could be an activity that they will enjoy for the rest of their life!
